Cricket week, the highlight of our cricketing and social year, is now only just over 3 weeks away. As usual, there are matches every day between Monday 3rd and Friday 7th August.
This year the Friday will be a special Billie Hockley Memorial Match, followed by a Barn Dance, which we hope will be a great family occasion for members and villagers alike.
The bar will be open every afternoon, tea will be available for supporters as well as players, and there will be home-cooked supper every evening, with a pork roast BBQ on the Friday.
Members, villagers and guests are most welcome on any day during the week – some locals come every day and enjoy a full week of evening meals! If you are not already a member or part of the visiting team’s party, we ask that you sign up as a social member before buying drinks, which you can do very easily on the spot.
For details of the meal each evening, see below. The meal will generally be served from about 7.30pm onwards, though a bit earlier on the Friday. Prices vary but will be between £12 and £15 each evening.
For the Friday, tickets (which include the Barn Dance as well as the meal) are £15, or just £5 for those aged under 16. These should be bought in advance at this link: Pork Roast and Barn Dance.
For other evenings, it’s not necessary to purchase tickets in advance but to help us assess numbers in good time and to guarantee your meal, we strongly encourage everyone who plans on coming on a particular evening to let us know in advance by emailing cricketweek@blackheathcricket.com. Those wanting a vegetarian option must pre-book.
We’ll look forward to seeing you during the week!
Monday 4th August: Blackheath v Blackheath (South East London) (2pm start)
Our Monday opponents, a fixture for a few years now, are a team from "the other Blackheath" (in South East London). This is usually a very close match with a tight finish.
Evening meal: Chicken Laksa, cooked by Pete Melhuish.
Tuesday 5th August: Blackheath v I’Anson Rep (2pm start)
Once again we welcome an I’Anson Representative XI, including a mix of players from the top 3 divisions of the league. The only side to defeat us in cricket week last year, this time we are looking for revenge!
Evening meal: Pasta Bolognese, cooked by Simon Jones.
Wednesday 6th August: Blackheath v Kenya Kongonis (11.30am start)
The Kenya Kongonis have been coming to Blackheath for many years as part of their annual tour and it is always a memorable occasion. It is an all-day game with lunch in the marquee for players and a limited number of supporters and guests.
Evening meal: Thai Buffet, cooked by Cill Culverwell.
Thursday 7th August: Blackheath v Jack Frost (2pm start)
We’ve long had close links with Jack Frost with quite a few players being members of both clubs over the years. The game is always played in great spirit.
Evening meal: Chilli con Carne, cooked by Anne-Marie Wakefield.
Friday 8th August: Billie Hockley Memorial Match: Chairman’s XI v President and Vice-Presidents’ XI (2pm start)
The culmination of our cricket week this year sees a special Billie Hockley Memorial Match between a Chairman’s XI and a President and Vice-Presidents’ XI. All members and villagers are encouraged to come along if they can.
Evening meal: Pork Roast BBQ with a variety of salads. Food will be served from around 7pm onwards and there will also be a barn dance from around 8pm. For tickets go to Pork Roast and Barn Dance.
