Kenya Tour March 2027

A few months ago, I emailed everyone about the opportunity be part of a very special cricket tour: a pre-season tour to Kenya in March 2027 to help celebrate the centenary of the Kenya Kongonis. 

There was interest in principle from quite few Blackheath players in joining the tour, but the original tour program was a highly ambitious one, involving being away for more than 2 weeks.  In the light of feedback, the tour itinerary has now been revised to make it much shorter (and cheaper).

The new itinerary can be found here: Kenya Tour 2027.  The cost is just $955 (roughly £750): see the itinerary for precisely what is included in this.  Flights would add roughly the same again, so the total cost would be around £1,500. 

The program packs all the cricket into a much shorter period, between 13 and 20 March, and involves missing just one working week.  The program also includes a rest day with a golf option, a day seeing wildlife in Nairobi National Park and a visit to one of the slum schools supported by the club’s partner charity, the EACDT.  Accommodation is at the Nairobi Club (home of the Kongonis themselves) and matches will be played at some of Kenya’s finest grounds.

Moreover, those who would like to add on a safari – or anything else – to their trip can easily do so at one end or the other of the tour itself.  David Waters, who is organising the tour, also runs a safari business and has provided an option for a short Masai Mara Safari by way of example.  However, there are plenty of other options and those interested in discussing them can contact David directly at david@sportingsafariskenya.com.

The Kongonis are looking for 5 more players from Blackheath to join the tour, but there would be space for more than that if there is demand, and supporters are also welcome.  Ronny Harrison, who spent 2 months in Kenya last year coaching at the EACDT and playing for the Kongonis (see Blackheath and the EACDT), is already signed up, and several others previously also expressed interest.  However, the time is now fast approaching when commitments and deposits will be required.
