Blackheath Women – looking for new recruits!

Updated: Feb 24, 2021

With light at the end of the lockdown tunnel now clearly in sight, the Blackheath women’s squad are gearing up for what should be a very exciting season starting in late April, and are looking for new members to join up, whether or not you have previous cricket experience.

This will be the women’s first season of league cricket in the brand new I’Anson Women’s League. There will be a series of softball matches on Sunday afternoons over the summer, each lasting about 2 hours or so. These are a lot of fun and very sociable games against other village women’s sides, usually finished off with glass or two of prosecco!

All home games will be played at our Women & Girls’ section’s new home, the completely redeveloped Grafham ground (for those who don’t know it, just south of Bramley off the A281). The works are now nearly complete, and by the time the season starts in late April it will be a fabulous venue, with effectively a brand new pavilion. Away games will be at local village grounds, all within about 30 minutes’ drive.

Training sessions will be on Thursday evenings at Grafham from 6.30-8pm, with a professional coach. The bar will be open every Thursday evening, and we hope to be providing food as well.

Equipment is provided and no experience is necessary – many of our existing members only started playing in the last couple of years. Anyone with a good eye for a ball can pick it up pretty quickly – so why not give it a try? It’s a bargain as well with the subscription just £50 for the summer, which includes all training and matches!

If you are potentially interested, please get in touch straight away with our women’s captain Helen Mansell on 07716 025277, or at helen87mansell@gmail.com, who will tell you more …
