Last Saturday (14th March) saw the first, hopefully of many, Jazz Nights at the Tangley Pavilion.
Thanks to the skills and contacts of Blackheath's resident violinist and impresario Ralph Broadbent a small but very appreciative local audience was treated to some fabulous music making from a quartet of truly world class musicians who have played with everyone from Van Morrison to Quincy Jones to David Bowie, George Michael and even Cilla Black! Paul Morgan on bass, Jeff Lardner on drums, Harry The Piano, and band leader Simon Bates on tenor and alto sax, clarinet and flute were also joined for a couple of guest numbers by our own local jazz vocalist Charlotte Maggs as they played a rich variety of popular standards by Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, George Gershwin and many more. Check out the video above for a flavour of the evening.
As if that wasn't enough, we all enjoyed a selection of Vikki's ever-stunning canapes in the interval.
It's hoped that we can attract some more top acts to the cricket club for future evenings and that this will become a regular highlight in the Blackheath calendar enjoyed by villagers and cricket club members alike. We'll keep you posted on future plans. In the meantime, these guys will be a hard act to follow!
